Home prices in the UK increased marginally by 0.2% month on month and while they are 3.3% higher compared to a year ago, in real terms they are down by around 1.2%, the latest index report shows.

In Greater London prices edged up by 0.1% in June month on month but average prices remain unchanged since July 2016, according to the data from Home.co.uk.

The average price of a home has increased by 3.35% in the last 12 months since the UK voted to leave the European Union, new research has found, up from £212,950 to £220,094.

It demonstrates that claims made by George Osborne in the run up to the historic vote that prices could fall by 18% in the next two years were wide of the mark.

The number of homes for sale in the UK increased in May by 7% following a fall of 4% in April, according to the latest property listing figures to be published.

Almost 80% of towns and cities saw an increase in new property listings month on month led by Barnsley with a rise of 74.6%, Wolverhampton up 52.1% and Canterbury up 51.9%.

The data from online estate agent HouseSimple also shows that some areas are still suffering from a lack of supply. New listings were down by 43.7% in Oldham, down 26% in Blackburn and down 25.2% in Northampton.

House prices in the UK recorded their third consecutive monthly decline for the first time since 2009, down 0.2%, taking the average value to £208,711, the latest index shows.

The figures from lender the Nationwide also show that annual house price growth also fell to 2.1%, and chief economist Robert Gardner said it provides further evidence that the housing market is losing momentum.

Some 1.4 million UK households are struggling to pay their mortgage and 2.6 million people think their monthly mortgage payments are too high, new research has found.

The study also shows that 2.5 million people have had to make cutbacks elsewhere in order to pay their mortgage but overall more than half, 58%, have never remortgaged to try to bring down their outgoings.

Average house prices in the UK increased by 4.1% in the year to March 2017, down from 5.6% in the year to February as the general slowdown in annual growth which began in the middle of 2016 continues.

The average UK house price was £216,000 in March 2017, some £9,000 higher than in March 2016 but £1,000 lower than last month, according to the official figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

Average property prices in Scotland were 3.1% higher in February 2017 than the previous year but fell 0.6% month on month, the latest official figures show.

This took the average price of a home to £138,821 while sales in December, the most up to date figures available, increased by 6.5% year on year but fell 2.7% month on month.

The official data from the Registers of Scotland also shows that the biggest price increase year on year was in East Dunbartonshire with a rise of 9.4% to £195,967. The biggest decrease was in Aberdeen where prices fell by 9.6% to £161,199

House prices fell for the second consecutive month in a row during April, while annual growth has fallen to its slowest rate in nearly four years, new figures show.

According to the latest Nationwide house price index, monthly house price growth fell 0.4% April, the first time house prices have fallen in consecutive months for nearly five years.

On an annual basis, prices dipped to 2.6% in April – the slowest pace since June 2013.

The CML has urged the Bank of England's financial policy committee to ease back on rules that require mortgage affordability to be assessed on the basis that interest rates could rise by 3% during the first five years.

The CML has raised concerns that the stance could be "unnecessarily restrictive and potentially adverse" for housing activity levels and UK households.

UK house prices will continue to rise in 2017, despite uncertainty surrounding Brexit negotiations, according to the Centre for Economics & Business Research.

Cebr predicts that the average house price will rise to £220,000 in 2017 though at a lower growth rate of 4.4%.

This is below the rate of 7.4% seen in 2016 and the slowest rate since 2013.
